QiGong – ShenDao

Qigong-ShenDao is based on the normal and basic principles of movement. Through this, we discover that every movement of our body is the consequence of an internal movement of energy. Its practice leads to a better functioning of the nervous and musculoskeletal system, as well as the internal organs. It offers us health and well-being and allows us to reconnect with joy and Life. For those who engage in a form of physical / artistic expression, ShenDao is a valuable tool as it enhances vitality and presence, giving flow and precision to movement. In a first phase, it allows us to be a conduit of energy, to guide it and to store it.

Yoga Class

Yoga classes are a personal encounter with the breath, body and mind.

The space and what it includes.

Meeting with the inside, the outside and the space between them.

With pause and silence.

A link to I Am That.

One step towards True Nature.

The lessons are based on classic Yoga practices, such as those of Yengar Yoga, Nada Yoga and Hatha Yoga. In this context we will move progressively from physical actions (asana) and breathing exercises (pranayama) to meditation (dhyana) and will touch on pieces of the philosophy of Yoga (Yoga Sutras) and the anatomy of the body for a more effective and comprehensible practice. Each lesson will be independent. There will be a connection and continuity between the courses.

The aim of these courses is to be a small retreat or otherwise a short break in everyday life. To create space and time for each person for personal training and relaxation of the body and the mind, so that the practitioner returns refreshed to the whole. In addition, in a more general context, the courses aim to:

-To connect the trainee with the present moment.

To redefine our axis, center and boundaries.

-To encourage a journey of self-knowledge.

-Everyone discovers to create their own personal daily practice (sadhana), to achieve their goals.

Those interested in attending the classes are kindly requested to wear comfortable, sporty clothes with a fitted line. Those who have their own personal yoga mat can take it with them.

The course is addressed to all those who need and appetite for an active break from well-being during their day.

Contemporary Acrobatic Dance

During the lessons we will research the kinetic vocabulary of modern dance and we will work on both physical abilities (technique, dynamics, flow, balance and acrobatics) as well as the expansion of our dance memory. We will explore the possibilities of sequencing small and larger dance / kinetic combinations, and their functionality in space. We will play with the alternations in the composition of these combinations (sequence, quality and speed).

The aim of the course is to find the mechanics of each movement and its possible alternations, to play the limits of a three-dimensional movement in space and to develop a choreographically complex result that will result from simpler kinetic materials.

The course is aimed at people of all levels in contemporary dance.

In And Out – Memories

Memories
The Multi-active Group of Art Fabrica Athens and the German organization Mostar Friedensprojekt e.V. invites you to the 5th Theater Youth Exchange Program “In and Out”.

Since 2016, every fall 20 young people, rising artists from Greece and Germany have been meeting in Athens and Berlin for two eight-day theater workshops. Within less than 15 days, participants from both countries, are guided by and use the art of the theater, so as to know each other and work together to create a performance. However, in view of the global circumstances, video and film art will be included in the theater program this year and the participants will thus have the opportunity to explore their relationship with performing arts. The theme of this year’s exchange is called “Memories”.

The topic:

We are (individually and collectively) a collection of memory and memories, which we have constantly experienced since the beginning of Time and which, with mathematical accuracy, lead us to what we are in the present moment. But from these memory and memories, only a few we can recollect. Some emerge at unforeseen time and others are forgotten, even though they are always there. In our mind, there may be a myriad of memories that we use every day or every once in a while. But there’s always the body and the soul, in which memories are captured transparently and they follow us quietly.

This memory, but also the memories, we’ll meet to strengthen and discover the fundamental, maybe unique tool we have as performers — artists, ourselves (body and mind), as well as the rest of the team we form. The theme of the seminar “Memories” will be approached through the path of the Research Theater, drawn by trainer, director and actor of Fabrica Athens, Fanis Katechos. The seminar workshops will be initiated by the seminar itself, as will the group’s perform and trainer, Joan Nino (Giovanna).

In this context, the participants will work among others on the following:

  • Composition of unbroken links between people in a set
  • Extension of the limits of physical and mental resistance
  • Widening physical consciousness (body, sound, music) and bidirectional concentration, redefining the relationship with the environment and its objects.
  • Energy management in a variety of physical operations
  • Training of memory capacity through physical actions and withdrawal of physical, primordial memory.
  • Know the affinity of breath to body sound and the use of speech.
  • Finding the personal role within a group, taking responsibility and completing the relevant actions
  • Practical and theoretical research and experimentation leading to decision-making and the creation of original action projects
The Project organizers will take into account all the sanitary measures for Covid-19 designated by the competent bodies of Greece and Germany for the best and safest experience of the participants.

Call for Participation – Youth Exchange Program

Call for Participation in the Youth Exchange Program – Open Your Eyes, See the Colors

The multiactive Art Group Fabrica Athens and the German organization Mostar Friedensprojekt invite you to the Youth Exchange Program – Open Your Eyes, See the Colors.

The project “Open Your Eyes, See the Colors” is organized by Mostar Friedensprojekt and is funded by the Erasmus + program, Youth in Action. It will take place in Usedom, Germany from September 6 to 15.

It will be attended by young people from 6 different European countries, who within 10 days will have the opportunity to get to know each other, but also to get to know themselves again.

The team of Fabrica Athens, a close associate of the organizer of the organization, uses theatrical techniques as an informal training tool. So, in this program he will undertake the theatrical approach to the theme of the program. At the same time, through a series of theatrical meetings, the instructors of Fabrica Athens will guide the participants in creating a presentation, from their own inspirations.

A few words about the program:

The concepts of diversity and inclusion are two important topics that directly concern the general public. We widely place them as basic conditions for a safe and successful society. Nevertheless, it is observed that social exclusion and discrimination among young people are increasingly on the rise. The reasons that often lead to this phenomenon are the fear and rejection of diversity (religion, social status, sexuality, nationality, etc.).

In this Youth Exchange Program, participants will have the opportunity to meet people from different countries. In addition, each participant will be given the opportunity to challenge himself and get out of the mental bubble he has created for himself and in which he is used to living.

General objectives of the program:

-The young people should be interested in the theme of the specific project.
-To be encouraged to express themselves creatively and to seek through the group their personal suggestions – answers on the subject.
-To learn more and to understand the subject through informal forms of education and theater.

Motivational thinking for the realization of the program is the following: For the one who wants to learn more, we could say “Googl-like it!”, But in the project we say “Learn from others!” or “Explain it to others!”. “You are the one who will open the horizons of the mind to people”, this is the content of the Youth Exchange.

Important information:

The Program is aimed at young people between 18 and 30 years old. Participation in the Youth Exchange, accommodation, food and transportation costs to and from Germany are free. Participants are invited to purchase their airline tickets, the amount of which will be refunded by the organizing organization.

Those interested in participating can send an email with the subject “Open Your Eyes, See the Colors” to researchtheater@gmail.com. Interested parties are kindly requested to include in the email the following information:

  1. Curriculum vitae
  2. A recent photo
  3. The reason you wish to participate in the program
  4. Contact details (telephone, email address).

LINES ǀ CURVES ǀ or Vice Versa

LINES ǀ CURVES ǀ or Vice Versa
Presentation of LINES ǀ CURVES ǀ or Vice Versa at the School of Fine Arts in the context of the 10th Athens Video Dance Festival and the Performance Lab with Ioannis Karounis.

On Sunday, January 26, 2020, the presentation of the work-in-progress “LINES ǀ CURVES ǀ or Vice Versa” by Joan Nino (Giovanna) took place as part of the 10th Athens Video Dance Project.

[“It is the lines and the direction that can reveal our transparent, spiral nature.” The technique as a tool for capturing – finding hidden meanings. Art as a connecting means that silently carries these concepts. ]

A few words about the newly established performance

“The project was based on the diptych technique – method of theatrical training and art – creative process. The backdrop, a white wall with 4 black lines, two horizontal to the ground and 2 perpendicular to it, and the surrounding area. The action began with the preparation of the space. Then followed the realization of the personal method of artistic training, with the various techniques that I include in it. Gradually, it evolved into a documentary event, or performance, which included the use of objects and interaction with the audience. At the end of the action, the dividing lines that usually exist between stage – general exhibition space, performer – audience and technique – performance, did not exist. Or they were not perceived.

We are going through a period where demystification and revelation have become very popular with people. Tutorials, clever ideas and solutions of all kinds, “behind the scenes” shows, “how to do it” questions and answers, are just a few examples of our daily searches and meetings on the internet. In this way, we often passively expose ourselves to an ocean of information, where their processing and practical application is often omitted. Regardless of the effect that this phenomenon has on our existence, there seems to be a need within us to be present as spectators in a wide range of processes that precede the final result – product. We are curious about the unfamiliar and we feel awe of what is hidden behind the obvious. We are fascinated by the unknown and that pleases us. While many times we look for it to equate it with the planned daily life and to feel a sense of satisfaction.

Listening to this need, I decided to share with the public selected pieces of my preparation as a performer, which I use for my artistic training (maintenance and progress of artistic tools), for the development of the creative, research and educational process but also as a warm-up. before the start of a show. In addition, the decision to exhibit this stage of the artistic process was another element. The preparation – preparation of an artist of visual arts is an experiential process that empowers the trainee and brings to the surface hidden aspects of himself, while at the same time revealing to him consciously or invisibly the laws that govern the world.

Through the revelation of this stage, in the performance “LINES ǀ CURVES ǀ or Vice Versa” I want to give the viewer the opportunity to experience a process – performance, which, unlike our time, is not reassured in ready-made answers, it evolves by answering unique to every old or new question and unexpected event. Without a script or expectation, the project aims to create a meaningful, non-verbal dialogue between player and viewer, reminding the latter that the greatest component of art is observation and the highest art form is life. ”

You can watch the trailer of the presentation here.

Remarks – Notes of the performer
  • The curved motion of objects is the one that allows meetings and relationships to occur between them or in other words to create a common course.
  • The curved motion of objects enables the management (and not treatment) of these situations.
  • In addition, objects that move in a curve, have the ability to maintain an independent, desirable course in space and time. At the same time, however, in an unexpected, “violent” encounter with an object or event, they are more likely to enter and exit it smoothly, either by acquiring a common path with the object-event or by choosing to walk through the empty space created in relation to this.
  • The straight lines of an object that is in a stop or motion, as well as the movements that erase lines define a precise – clear direction and direction in space.
  • Unlike movements and objects that draw straight lines, curved movements have multiple dynamics within space, as they extend in different directions.
  • The motion of an object can only be determined as a function of a fixed point.

And now… – Puppet Theater Training Course

And now… – Puppetry Training Course

The Multi-Active Art Group – Fabrica Athens and Mostar Friedensprojekt completed the first Puppetry Training Course for Youth Professionals.

The Youth Workers exchange took place in Berlin and Athens, with intensive workshops and the presentation of a puppet show at the Fabrica Theater Stage.

Eggert Hardten, founder of Mostar Friedensprojekt and an experienced Youth Worker, shares his experience in the program.

And now… Puppet Theater!

It all started, in September 2019 in a meeting with Silvana (stage and puppet maker, program trainer) and Elettra (translator, program coordinator) in the garden of the Fabrica Artspace in Athens. We are talking about puppetry, puppetry, fairy tales, youth exchanges. At one point, Silvana picks up some rubbish from the ground and a bottle and creates a doll out of nowhere. Unbelievable, it immediately interests us!

And now με let’s go quickly to February 2020

The team of Fabrica Athens, with 6 Greek Youth Workers and artists is visiting our Organization, Mostar Friedensprojekt (and how the Friedensprojekt is pronounced) in Berlin. We started with a walk – a tour of sites associated with fairy tales, which ended at the Neukölln Puppet Museum.

Then we started building our workshop at the Theaterhaus in Wallstrasse. Every day we worked together, telling stories to each other, doing exercises and creating dolls. The little dolls somehow, magically, emerge from our hands, although none of us except Silvana has experience in this. We create them from bottles, toilet and kitchen paper, paper tape, fabric and a LOT of silicone!

We visited the School of Contemporary Puppetry of the Ernst Busch Academy, where we attended three performances by aspiring puppet-puppetry students. We have learned that “less is more”, which seems to be the motto of our time. Accuracy counts, innovation can be found even in a tall projector or in a really slow motion.

And now… back to our puppets!

After six working days, they live and experiment with us, but also with each other. Here is Shahmaran the creature with the double characteristics and the awesome mother of Hecabe. With them is Pirimpimpim the narrator and the spirit of the forest the Grandmother. Then there are the badger and the raccoon, a migratory wolf and June the goose. There is also the theatrically sad Princess and the little Prince of Saint-Exupery, Argie and the famous joker Backpack.

It is amazing how the visits evoked extremely different ideas for each participant’s dolls. We have dolls made of fabric and wood, dolls that are played with the fingers, those that have half body, hand, rigid and a puppet. They all have their own character, which is already worryingly “violating” the character of their puppet players.

While Elettra walks around with her doll, Pirimpimpim, and dreams of the script, the rest of us, in the last hours before the completion of our first exchange, work hard around the silicone pistol. And then a morning performance at the Charlottenburg Theater with the play “Peter and the Wolf” reminds us of our audience, that is, the children and the child within us.

And now… Six days later on the stage, Fabrica Theater Stage.

There we are with our dolls and with the script ready for the first reading. Elettra managed to do the miracle and incorporated all the characters into one project, which takes us to a distant land and the nearby forest of animals.

We start with a dry reading on the black stage of the theater. Then the scene emerges. Large slabs of daow, knives, paints and where the castle stands. But other needs arise: three cardboard trees need to hide five people, so we learn to “disappear” behind our puppet, while we are fully exposed to the public – we feel embarrassed. Will it be believed?

To find out, we will visit the Puppet Theater in Patissia, where Takis and Mina Sarri present their puppet shows from 1978. Together with their daughter, they give us a private performance of Pinocchio in a modern interpretation of the same of Takis. The spectacle is wonderful and again, we become children too. Some of us are crying. Then the puppet hosts discuss in detail with us about our dolls. One of them – the raccoon – even causes jealousy in the professional puppeteer. Another – Backpack the jester – a whole doll from a single bottle, with a backpack – leaves them somewhat puzzled. How to direct it? The Backpack puppet player is not surprised at all. Puppet players enjoy the double-faced princess from rolls of paper. They dedicate time and thought to each of our creations, help with good advice and in a way convey their magical touch. In the end, our wolf cooperates with the wolf of Takis, in a battle of good and evil. They give us the three basic rules.

Never move for no reason, find nice moves to express the doll’s life even when it is just standing.

Move, stop, speak separately. Pause.

Become the shadow of your doll.

In the workshop of Stathis Markopoulos we understood the opening that a doll can create and how people have always wanted and tried to give soul to objects. This was complemented by our visit to the MaryBu puppet museum, where we made a beautiful journey through the eyes of the puppeteer and her friend, Michael Meschke. A journey worth doing for everyone.

And now… the show

Fabrica Athens has an undefeated professional tactic. The poster was designed before the exchange, the date of the show was set early and it was spread on the internet. But again… it starts at 11 a.m.! Sunday morning – who will come to such a show? Six days later we stand nervously between the scenes, waiting for our audience. Then the room fills up, we are sold out. Let the show begin… Photos…

Puppetry as a method of non-formal learning was the goal of our exchange. We learned how to make the most of the sea of great, living traditions of puppetry in Germany and Greece. This made us feel respected and humbled. We saw students with many years of experience and met puppet players with decades of experience. But their joy in their art was the same. On the other hand, we on our part did the whole way: from the idea, to its realization with our hands, the scenery, the choreography, the work and our dolls to seize the moment and really come to life. The seriousness and concentration of the participants was great, as well as the creativity and craftsmanship treatment for the soul. We put life into things and our dolls gave us back their love. A very emotional process that we want to share.

And now Youth the Youth Exchanges…
