Call for Participation – Youth Exchange Program

Call for Participation in the Youth Exchange Program – Open Your Eyes, See the Colors.

The multiactive Art Group Fabrica Athens and the German organization Mostar Friedensprojekt invite you to the Youth Exchange Program – Open Your Eyes, See the Colors.

The project “Open Your Eyes, See the Colors” is organized by Mostar Friedensprojekt and is funded by the Erasmus + program, Youth in Action. It will take place on the island of Kos from April 25 to May 4, 2020. It will be attended by young people from 6 different European countries, who within 10 days will have the opportunity to meet each other, but also to get to know themselves again. themselves.

The team of Fabrica Athens, a close associate of the organizer of the organization, uses theatrical techniques as an informal training tool. So, in this program he will undertake the theatrical approach to the theme of the program. At the same time, through a series of theatrical meetings, the instructors of Fabrica Athens will guide the participants in creating a presentation, from their own inspirations.

A few words about the program:

The concepts of diversity and inclusion are two important topics that directly concern the general public. We widely place them as basic conditions for a safe and successful society. Nevertheless, it is observed that social exclusion and discrimination among young people are increasingly on the rise. The reasons that often lead to this phenomenon are the fear and rejection of diversity (religion, social status, sexuality, nationality, etc.).

In this Youth Exchange Program, participants will have the opportunity to meet people from different countries. In addition, each participant will be given the opportunity to challenge himself and get out of the mental bubble he has created for himself and in which he is used to living.

General objectives of the program:

-The young people should be interested in the theme of the specific project.
-To be encouraged to express themselves creatively and to seek through the group their personal suggestions – answers on the subject.
-To learn more and to understand the subject through informal forms of education and theater.

Motivational thinking for the realization of the program is the following: For the one who wants to learn more, we could say “Googl-like it!”, But in the project we say “Learn from others!” or “Explain it to others!”. “You are the one who will open the horizons of the mind to people”, this is the content of the Youth Exchange.

Important information:

The Program is aimed at young people between 18 and 30 years old. Participation in the Youth Exchange, accommodation, food and transportation to and from Kos is free. Participants are invited to purchase their airline tickets, the amount of which will be refunded by the organizing organization.

[2020] Love’s Labour’s Lost

[2020] Love’s Labour’s Lost

The multiactive Art Group Fabrica Athens presents its new production “Love’s Labour’s Lost” directed by Lysandros Spetsieris, at Dekatessera Theater. Three years after the sold out performances of Easter Island at the Anglican Church of St. Paul, Lysandros Spetsieris, spokesman for the modern theatrical generation of iconoclastic theater, returns with W. Shakespeare’s subversive comedy Love’s Labour’s Lost.

A lover of the image and the mixing of the performing arts in each of his performances, he creates together with the fifteen-member troupe a dreamy environment that exudes eroticism and desire.

A puzzle comedy, with thick humor, misunderstandings and games of verbal competition unfolds before us in a place of unfulfilled love, in the new live translation of Christina Bambou – Pagoureli.

The rulers of Spanish Navarre decide to transform the kingdom into a center of spiritual and physical purification, in a new European academy of arts, letters and asceticism. They sterilize themselves and all Navarre nationals, staying away from any immune act and habit. But soon the princess of France and her three favors will arrive in the royal court. The entrance to the palace is forbidden for them and they are forced to spend the night for several nights in the forest.

A pagan game of transformations and childish egoism begins in January at the Dekatessera Theater.

European Program in Bosnia

The multiactive Art Group Fabrica Athens and the German organization “Mostar Friendensproject e.V.”, carried out the Youth Exchange Program – Make Art, Not Walls.
Dimitra Mazi, responsible for the Greek mission of the program, presents the history and experience of Make Art, Not Walls.

The story of this program begins in August 2018 in the Youth Exchange Program “A Race For Tolerance” co-organized by the multiactive Art Group Fabrica Athens and the German Organization “Mostar Friendensproject e.V.”. It was there that we first met Benjiamin Bender and Alina Nogai, members of the Mostar organization. At our next meeting after a few months in a training course, our idea for the Make Art, Not Walls program sprang up. In the months that followed we organized our thoughts and ideas and wrote the above program.

The program was approved in April 2019 and we entered the final stretch for its implementation. There were several difficulties: three people were in different countries, having other daily lives and there were not a few days that our nights were spent on our computer screens. Then the will and joy to create the program overcame any difficulty. So, in August 2019, a year after our first acquaintance, we found ourselves in a circle with 37 people from 7 different countries!

“There is a world out there that we have not yet explored. It’s awesome what you can teach others. It’s scary what you can learn from others. “It’s unbelievable what you can achieve by coming out of your bowl.”
Ioanna Arapi, participant in Make Art, Not Walls

The European Youth Exchange Program took place in Bosnia and Herzegovina, in the city of Kljuc from 7 to 16 August 2019 with the support of Erasmus +. The participating countries were Greece, Germany, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Denmark, Ukraine, Portugal and Moldova. The theme of the program revolved around the question:

How can a small step encourage a group of young people to make their own move and express in their own way and in their own voice the world they want?

Within ten days people from 7 different countries who did not know, with different experiences and stimuli came in contact to create a reality that they want and to condemn racist behaviors and unfavorable conditions that we experience every day. Through the use of theatrical techniques, creative activities, as well as discussions, a protected and group environment was created by all of us, where the participants were able to express themselves freely and creatively. The program ended with a street theater performance and a photo exhibition by the children themselves who participated. Through them they had the opportunity to communicate their experience, the issues they faced and those that concern them.

“An invaluable experience with a lot of knowledge, connection with wonderful people, a wonderful and unforgettable trip”
Evi Mitraka, participant in the Make Art, Not Walls program
Fabrica Athens uses the theater and theatrical methods it has developed as an educational, social, and humanitarian tool.
  • The theater contributed to the acquaintance and sharing of their experiences between the participants. The actions and friction required by the theatrical process, led to a practical mental and spiritual opening of each participant.
  • Forum embodied theater and theater techniques created an atmosphere of internal and group concentration and took on the role of catalyst to create an unbroken bond between team members.
  • The process of the exhibition gave the participants the opportunity to “crumple” in the protected environment of the group, resulting in “softening” as people and to open their minds.

Throughout the program, participants came in contact with the question of whether or not the events and situations we experience are the same even though we are in different parts of the map.

“An unprecedented experience that dynamically takes you out of your shot and from the things you knew until now, as a result of which you come into essential contact with other people, with yourself and with the creation of the theater.”
Maria Koufomanoli, participant in Make Art, Not Walls

Greece was represented by the Fabrica Athens Organization. The participants of the Greek delegation, who were in the European project were Nikos Chortarias, Maria Koufomanoli, Evi Mitraka, Ioanna Arapi and Fotini Stamou. The program was for the participants of the Greek mission a special trip to 7 European countries at the same time. Despite the differences:

  • They discovered the common points with the other cultures and the characteristics that unite them
  • They found ways to communicate and express the world in which they want to live
  • They managed to live together, catalyzing any apparent differences that may exist, because the essence is that we are all human and let us get used to forget it.
“For me it was an unprecedented experience that helped me better understand some of my characteristics, brought me in contact with interesting people. I would definitely do it again “
Fotini Stamou, participant in Make Art, Not Walls

I would like to thank the multiactive art group Fabrica Athens, in which I have been apprenticing for the last few years, for the opportunity it gave me to be a creator and to experience this unique experience. In addition, I would like to thank my teacher Fanis Katechos for what he has taught me and is teaching me both in the art of theater and in life. Finally, I thank the participants of the Greek delegation, the German Organization “Mostar Friendensproject” and of course my friends and collaborators Alina Nogai and Benjiamin Bender who were a source of inspiration and together we managed to make an idea a reality and a life experience.

“Reaching the greatest depth of people, and the greatest peak of camaraderie – that’s what I learned from this project”
Nikos Chortarias, participant in Make Art, Not Walls

Theater of Research – Fanis Katechos
From Tuesday 22/10/19, 18:00 – 20:30

Fanis Katechos, a founding member of Fabrica Athens, inspirer and keynote speaker of the contemporary theatrical method “Theater of Research”, intensively shares for another year the findings of his personal theatrical research, within the annual Fabrica Lab. Participants practice and are familiar with the techniques he has developed and the methods he incorporates into practice, such as those of Grotowski, Eugenio Barba, Peter Brook, Suzuki and Suzan Batson.

The “Theater of Research” is an idea based on practice, which takes place in the here and now. Activating the body, exploring and expanding its boundaries, relaxing the mind, but also exploring the authentic sound landscapes it produces. The goal is the recognition and release of the visible and invisible masks of the human – actor, the extraction of the diamonds that are hidden in each one and the creation of personal (physical – spiritual) and group unity. Also important is the implantation of the seed of the actor’s autonomy, through the effort to create his personal method, while the overall training through the courses – meetings aims to shape people – artists “plasticine” who are “multi-tools” , “Transparent” who will let others see through them the hidden truth and “anxious” who will manage their roles as tightrope walkers.

It is a quick and easy way to get to know ourselves and those around us, realizing the elements that unite us, such as the same concerns and the same wants. Promotes the contribution of individuality and diversity to the whole. It builds trust with strong foundations between people. It contributes to the acquisition of values and the formation of an integrated personality, reminding, from its structure alone, that the one who gives is rich. It gives impetus and motivation to people of all ages to believe again and to create, with the means at their disposal, worlds that in our time are considered utopian. The constant search and use of data by various methods results in the unlocking of various individual issues and the solution of problems concerning the whole.

Ram Yoga – Giovanna Michaliadi Sarti
From Thursday 24/10/19, 18:00 – 19:30

Yoga classes are a personal encounter with the breath, body and sound it produces.

The space and what it includes.

Meeting with the inside, the outside and the space between them.

With pause and silence.

A link to I Am That.

One step towards True Nature.

  • a connection between the trainee and the present moment.
  • To redefine our axis and boundaries.
  • Encourage a journey of questions and self-knowledge.
  • To find out the reason of this participation.

The lessons are based on classic Yoga practices, such as those of Yengar Yoga, Nada Yoga and Hatha Yoga. In this context we will move progressively from breathing exercises (pranayama) and physical activities (asana) to meditation (dhyana) and we will touch on pieces of the philosophy of Yoga (Yoga Sutras). Each lesson will be independent. There will be a connection and continuity between the courses.

The aim of these courses is to be a small retreat, or otherwise a break in everyday life. To create space and time for everyone to personally train and relax their body and mind, so that they can return refreshed to the whole. In addition, in a more general context, the lessons have a purpose: The Ram Yoga title of the lessons is inspired by the god Rama of Hindu mythology. He is the incarnation of the god Visnu, god of conservation. It symbolizes our inner flame, which is located in the 3rd energy center (chakra) and purifies the body and mind. In turn the 3rd chakra is associated with inner strength and will, which many translate as courage. We all have this transformative energy and it is an integral part of a continuous practice that will help us overcome any obstacle in life.

Suzuki Training Meetings – Giovanna Michaliadi Sarti
From Friday 25/10/19, 18:00 – 19:30

The purpose of the meetings is to create a common place and time, where performing artists have the opportunity to train together, get to know each other through theatrical training and come into a first contact with the Suzuki method. The need to hold meetings and spread the Suzuki training method was born after participating in the summer Suzuki Training program in Japan with Tadashi Suzuki, Kameron H. Steele and Aki Sato – Johnson. By encouraging them to share the method and continue to train with a team, the meetings are not so much a lesson as a lesson, but a willingness to build a group theatrical training environment based on the values of the Suzuki method.

A few words about the Suzuki method:

An MRI reveals to the patient where they are located and what are the deep problems of his body. Theatrical training – Tadashi Suzuki’s method for the actor – performer works in the same way.

The Suzuki practitioner has the opportunity to find out where he is sick, just like the MRI scanner does. The only difference between the theatrical method Suzuki and the tomograph is the following: the first, in addition to showing you where the disease is, gives the actor-performer the opportunity to be healed.

So, the Suzuki Method is a world-renowned theatrical workout that:

  • Shows to the actor-performer unresolved knots and obstacles.
  • Through practice he solves and overcomes the obstacles that appear.
  • Gives the opportunity to the actor-performer to maintain his level of energy and makes him ready.
  • Encourages practitioners to live in the “question” instead of the “answer”.
