New workshop with Alexandra Kazazou at the Fabrica Technopark, for a small number of young actresses and performers, from 17 to 20 September.

The laboratory

By working accurately on the anatomical approach to the boundaries of the body and its sound vessels, any kind of aesthetic language can be stripped. A suggestion will be made:

  1. In cultivating the awareness of the body parts and its vessels, as well as in its expressive possibilities
  2. In the strengthening of the respiratory vessels
  3. In the embodiment of sound-text-song and in the creation of physical actions
  4. In the composition of the body
  5. In the rhythmic scores of the body and the voice
  6. In the harmonization of the horizontal with the vertical axis of the body and the voice
  7. In the deepening of the coordination technique (Coordination)

This seminar is addressed to actors, dancers, students and graduates of drama schools. It is important that participants wear comfortable clothing.

To apply, those interested should register by emailing researchtheater@gmail.com, writing in the subject “The Radiant Performer” and attaching:

  1. Full Curriculum Vitae

ShenDao QiGong – seminar with Alain Ratier

ShenDao QiGong Seminar with Alain Ratier

The Multifunctional Art Group Fabrica Athens hosted the ShenDao QiGong Seminar with Alain Ratier on 25 & 26 July 2020 at the Fabrica Art space.

What is ShenDao Qigong?

It is the path of Consciousness, the path of the Spirit.

ShenDao-Qigong is based on the normal and basic principles of movement. Through this, we discover that every movement of our body is the consequence of an internal movement of energy. Its practice leads to a better functioning of the nervous and musculoskeletal system, as well as the internal organs. It offers us health and well-being and allows us to reconnect with joy and Life. For all Martial Arts practitioners and those involved in a form of physical / artistic expression, ShenDao is a valuable tool as it enhances vitality and presence, giving flow and precision to movement. In a first phase, it allows us to be a conduit of energy, to guide it and to store it.
Our emotional and mental tensions calm down and this offers us calmness but also increased alertness. In this way we discover that through the body all the dimensions of our existence are reconnected (physical, mental and spiritual). Thus we become able to function as a single and harmonious whole.

The application of Qi Gong – Shen Dao allows us to enjoy Life and evolve Art.

Curriculum Vitae Alain Ratier:

Alain Ratier, Qi Gong Master and Energy Therapist, has been practicing Martial Arts for over 45 years. He has been practicing Qi Gong for 27 years, looking for a technique that could strengthen his physical body and allow him to adequately meet the exhausting demands of Martial Arts. He shares his long experience with complete devotion to his students and his art, with great simplicity and an open heart. It brings us a unique technique but also the Art of Life.

Movement Medicine / Online courses with Maria Varela

Kinetic Meditation • Dance and Physical Expression with Maria Varela – Weekly Online Courses 2021 (via zoom)

Fabrica Art space and Movement Medicine Greece invite you to a unique exploration of movement and physical expression!

Awakening the Body

What is it about?

Movement Medicine is an exciting practice of kinetic meditation / awareness through movement that combines the pleasure of our dance with the mindfulness and wisdom of shamanic understanding of nature and the world around us. It invites us to breathe, to listen to our body and let it “translate” our experience into movement and expression.

The practice is guided. The movement / exploration can be adapted to the special capabilities of each body, at the same time following the thread given by the instructions.

What we do

With the help of selected music from every corner of the Earth, and targeted guidance, we pay a little more attention to our breathing and follow the moving body. Through meditative dance and structured experiential explorations, we motivate the body to awaken, the mind to focus and let the senses “form” us. We transform the experience of the moment into kinetic creation and authentic personal expression that is released and liberates us. Bringing us, with each step, closer to where we are and paving the way for what we want to share.

To whom is it adressed to

It is aimed at adults interested in discovering new practices of physical, mental and emotional discharge and rejuvenation, based on movement and meditation ∙ along with deep curiosity and need to get to know themselves and the people around them better, discovering intelligence, expressiveness and the enjoyment of the moving body.

  • The meetings follow a broader thematic thread but are independent and there are different participation options (individual meeting / drop-in, four consecutive or the whole two-month cycle).
  • No previous experience with dancing or meditation and no special physical condition is required, only respect for the limits of the body.

Movement is medical whether you are moving a life, professionally or amateurly, or you are just starting out and think you have two left legs (or arms!). All you need is clothes to move around comfortably, your little water – and especially yourself, as it is.

Yoga Class

Yoga classes are a personal encounter with the breath, body and mind.
The space and what it includes.
Meeting with the inside, the outside and the space between them.
With pause and silence.
A link to I Am That.
A step towards True Nature.

The lessons are based on classic Yoga practices, such as those of Yengar Yoga, Nada Yoga and Hatha Yoga. In this context we will move progressively from physical actions (asana) and breathing exercises (pranayama) to meditation (dhyana) and will touch on parts of the philosophy of Yoga (Yoga Sutras) and the anatomy of the body for a more effective and comprehensible practice. Each lesson will be independent. There will be a connection and continuity between the courses.

The aim of these courses is to be a small retreat or otherwise a short break in everyday life. To create space and time for each person for personal training and relaxation of the body and mind, so that the practitioner returns to the whole rejuvenated. In addition, in a more general context, the courses aim to:

  • Connect the trainee with the present moment.
  • Redefine our axis, center and boundaries.

Site Specific & Improvisation

Site Specific & Improvisation

The basic idea of the workshop is to move, dance and communicate, letting ourselves be influenced by the space itself and what it contains. Shape, volume, light, sounds, textures, animals, people. But also ourselves. With every movement, with every small or big change, the space changes with it and the way I exist and move in it.

Participants are invited to kinetically explore the space (indoor or outdoor) and to change / influence with their main material their bodies and what they bring. The endless possibilities offered by the outdoor space itself. What “I” want to “say” or consciously add (interior space) to the body. And the others.

The lessons will be given exercises that will warm up and solve our body kinetically, dance and in contact (physical or not) with the other people who will participate.

The number of people will be limited (up to 10 people) and will be consolidated at the end of February.

The workshop is aimed at people with or without some experience in dance, but with a good relationship with their body and movement. It is essential to wear comfortable clothes, sneakers for the outdoors, and to have water with you and a change of clothes for later.

For the book:

The Blind Horse. Dialogues with Eugenio Barba and other writings are a treasure trove of Odin Theater bibliography. It has been published in Spanish, Italian, English and most recently in Portuguese. The original Danish version dates back to 1998, born of an interview between Eugenio Barba and Iben Nagel Rasmussen. The flow of their discussions makes the book so interesting.

The Blind Horse. Dialogues with Eugenio Barba and others do not fall into the category of Eugenio Barba’s theoretical books, nor into the category of books about education that he and many of his actors have written. This is a book that claims a place in the intermediate categories, where we can experience a discussion – and a tension – between two different roles in the theater: that of the director (Eugenio Barba) and the performer (Iben Nagel Rasmussen). Their language is open and personal, allowing us to see between their actions and their efforts for an uninterrupted search of their personal integrity.

This is not a book about education. You will not find rules, exercises or tricks. It’s a book about what makes education worthwhile. Around the morals hidden behind the actor’s art. Written by an artist who also does not find her place among conventional categories. She is a performer, a narrator, a musician, a teacher. It is an authority that constantly blurs the line between personal stories and artistic practices. This is a very personal book and, paradoxically, it’s a global emotion. The reader may find Iben’s path in the theater too familiar, as her stories echo the path of every devoted artist.

The Blind Horse. Dialogues with Eugenio Barba consisted of chapters commemorating the beginning of Odin and his producers until the play Kaosmos (1993-1996). In the first three chapters we hear only the voice of Eugenio Barba. Starting with Kaspariana, the period when Iben Nagel Rasmussen became a member of the Odin Theater, each chapter is double and their two voices begin to be heard. Through the juxtaposition of everyone’s memories of common creative processes, we begin to understand that they are radically different while at the same time converging on defining this polyphonic unit that is so characteristic of Odin’s productions.
