The Art of Impossible – Free screening 22/03/2023

The Art of Impossible
Open screening of the film “The Art of the Impossible” at the Fabrica Artspace.
On March 22, 2023 at 19:30 there will be a free and open to the public screening of the film “The Art of the Impossible”. The screening takes place on the occasion of the three-day seminar “Dance of Intentions” with the great actress and theater teacher, Roberta Carreri of the historic Odin Teatret, which will take place on March 20, 21, 22 at Fabrika Artspace. The screening will be followed by a discussion with the actress.
A few words about the film:
In 1964, the Italian immigrant Eugenio Barba started Odin Teatret in an air-raid shelter in Oslo. Two years later, his company was invited to settle in Holstebro, then known as “the most boring city in Denmark”. Today, Holstebro is known as ”the city of culture”. Odin Teatret is one of the world’s oldest and most famous theatre companies. It has altered established ideas about where and how theatre is performed, and how performances may emerge out of the actors’ craft and creativity.
Elsa Kvamme’s documentary The Art of the Impossible deals with the unique story of Eugenio Barba, who came to Norway as an immigrant before anyone had heard the word ”pizza”. Today Barba is known as one of the main innovators within modern performing arts. He has conceived unforgettable performances, as well as concepts like “potlach” and “the third theatre”. He also has a special method to make the group renew itself by regularly initiating “earthquakes” which change the rules within the troupe. And one year he left the group himself, in order to live on a dollar a day.

No Me Mires, Lee me – Photography

No Me Mires, Lee Me – Μη με Κοιτάς, Διάβασέ με
The global exhibition against gender violence of the global photographic movement No Me Mires, Lee Me, directed and created by Camila Puerto at Fabrica Artspace in Athens, Greece.
#NoMeMiresLeeme
Created and directed by Camila Puerto

#NoMeMiresLeeme 2023 is a Photographic Movement against genre violence in the world.  This has been possible thanks to the collaboration of women artists from different disciplines (actresses, directors, playwrights, activists, and theater investigators) and nationalities (Kurdistan, Morocco, Taiwan, Argentina, Colombia, Germany, UK, Romania, and others). It is made of a collection of 30 photographs in which each artist expresses her discourse by writing it in their body. The speech is based in the story of each of these 30 women with genre violence and/or in what they want to communicate about being a woman in their context (nationality, tradition, religion, migration, family, etc.). Each one will create the words, in their mother language and will decide how to take her photo, it all is part of the speech.

Why is it a movement?

Βecause I would like that every woman who sees this collection gets inspired to make her own, with her voice, with her story, and share it with me using the hashtag in social networks.

This movement was born on March 8th, 2020 at midday, when a collection of 33 photographs were shared on social networks (Instagram and Facebook) in protest against genre violence in México, where 10 women are murdered every day. Created by Mexican actresses, photographers and make-up artists, and titled #NoMeMiresLeeme. The Movement spread and reached many women from different states in Mexico, who also joined the movement in social networks by using the hashtag. In June 2022, 10 photos from 2020’s collection were shared at Transit Festival X in Holstebro, Denmark; and in September, a selection of 20 photos at Frauen Theater Festival in Frankfurt, Germany. After sharing the project at Frauen I noticed the potential for representing women all around the world.

During March, 2023 we will have the exhibition of the 30 photographies and a Video Performance derivative from the collection en different countries of the world: Lalish Theaterlabor, in Viena, Austria; Fabrica Athens, in Athens, Greece; Antagon TheaterAktion, in Frankfurt, Germany; Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México, México.

Dance of Intentions
Theater workshop with Roberta Carreri in Athens.
The Multiactive group of art Fabrica Athens hosts the great actress and theater teacher Roberta Carreri for a three day theater workshop in Athens.

The workshop “Dance of Intentions” with Roberta Carreri is divided into two parts. The first part will concentrate on the actor’s physical training — on the awakening of the actor’s presence. The second part will focus on the work with the voice, comprising exercises that awaken the sonority of the voice and develop the capacity to make vocal actions in the space.

The aim of the workshop is to transmit, in a relatively short period of time, the basis of an actor’s training that can helpthe young actors to discover their scenic presence through the exploration of a formalized scenic behavior and the experienced actors to provide a way to free themselves of their performing automatism, their own clichés.

The workshop will focus on the perception of your own presence in relation to the space and to the other actors on stage and find ways of how one can be present in the action one is doing and at the same time be ready to react. The workshop will also focus on how to find the centre line of your body, how to work with the “in-tensions” and in which way we achieve a dynamic immobility. We will explore different qualities of energy of the gaze and learn how to identify different points of the body where the impulse that will lead one in space starts. We will work with the creation of physical and vocal actions, and how to realize them with different qualities of energy – e.g. slow motion. And finally the workshop will also focus on the aspect of vocal training with several body resonators and the relations between vocal and physical actions.

Each participant is required to come to the workshop with a text of at least 20 lines.
