1. Acrobatic Dance

Acrobatic Dance

The course of Acrobatic dance is a different kinetic approach to the basic acrobatic tricks, adding flow to the combination of movements.

During the lessons we will research the kinetic vocabulary of contemporary dance and we will work on both the physical capabilities (technique, dynamics, flow, balance and acrobatics) as well as the expansion of our dance memory. The main purpose is to get acquainted with the different kinetic approaches acrobatics and dance, learning the techniques one by one.

The aim of the course is to find the mechanics of each movement and its possible alternations, to play with the limits of a three-dimensional movement in space and to develop a choreographically complex result from simpler acrobatic and kinetic materials. The courses will include the preparation of the whole body and the guidance of the acrobatic foundations. The course is referring to people of all levels.

1. Training of Theatrical Instructors

Training of Theatrical Instructors

The workshop “Training of Theatrical Instructors” concerns the edification of instructors through the theatrical practice “Theater of Research” by Fanis Katechos. It is a series of bio-courses during which the participants create their personal toolbox and consequently their own system to lead and work with a set of people through the theatrical process.

More specifically, in the training of theatrical instructors the practitioners:

– Learn and practice in well-known theatrical methods and techniques (techniques of Jerzy Grotowski, Odin Teatret, Tadashi Suzuki, Susan Batson, techniques of mimicry, theatrical clown and theater Noh), in practices and techniques, that apply in theater (ground acrobatics, yoga, qigong, juggling – handling objects of skill), but also in techniques of Research Theater.

– Discuss and formulate the Code of Conduct that they need to follow as educators and that needs to govern the learning experience.

– Through practical and theoretical stimuli and instructions, they learn to organize and apply the acquired knowledge of their education.

– They learn the variables that define their system (time, space, number, multiculturalism, gender, physical, emotional and mental state, etc.) and how to be flexible and adapt it in each conditions.

The workshop is referring to directors, actors, dancers, performers, teachers of all levels and specialties, students of theater schools, higher vocational schools and schools of visual arts, social workers, students and professionals of the exact and theoretical sciences who want to apply the theatrical process  in their industry.

The aim of the training is for the participants to acquire a multidimensional view of the theater and to be equipped with the appropriate tools, in order to create a personal practice – method based on the theater that they will apply effectively to the groups they work with:

– Theatrical groups Students of theater, dance and other performing arts

– Students of theoretical and exact sciences

– Children and Youth

– People with disabilities

– Immigrants

– Refugees

– Groups in social structures (e.g. prisons, psychiatric hospitals, etc.), health structures (e.g. hospitals), professional structures (e.g. companies) etc.

[2022]: The last theorem – Constantin Caratheodory

[2022]: The last theorem – Constantin Caratheodory

Fabrica Theater

From March 11, every Friday and Saturday at 21:00

For 16 performances

The Multi functional Art Group Fabrica Athens presents it’s new show , which is dedicated to a hero of Greece, the legendary mathematician Konstantinos Karatheodoris. The team collaborates with the director Christos Karasavvidis, presenting a poetic look at the form and work of the great scientist. The last theorem-Constantin Caratheodory will start on March 11 and will be played for 16 performances at the Fabrica Theater (Meg.Alexandrou 125 &Evrymedontos, Kerameikos).

The performance is a tribute to KonstantinosKaratheodoris, whose work, although it greatly shaped mathematical science remained unrecognized in his homeland. Karatheodoris was considered one of the greatest scientists of his time, who helped develop Einstein’s Theory of relativity. He solved unsolved mathematical problems and founded the science of thermodynamics. His Greek colleagues rejected his Karatheodoris more than once.

It is a stage composition on the occasion of the thought and personality of the mathematician. The play doesn’t want to narrate the biography of Konstantinos Karatheodoris, but to unfold on the stage the labyrinthine mind of genius, which characterized the scientific thought of past century. In the face of horror and barbarity of wars that stigmatized humanity, mathematics for Karatheodoris look like poetry.

The director Christos Karasavvidis notes characteristically

“We decided this year, on occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Asia Minor Catastrophe, to be inspired by from the thought and the work of one of the most important Greek scientists abroad, the mathematician Konstantinos Karatheodoris whose mathematical intellect influenced the whole scientific community of 20th century. From the beginning of the process we tried to focus to not create a biographical play but to immerse ourselves in the generally inductive mathematical thinking of a genius like Karatheodoris, perhaps not so much in it’s purely scientific nature, but ultimately in its philosophical view. To wonder, like himself, if love can conquer death and if our emotionally entropy can ultimately make us immortal. We delivered an avant-garde stage composition without knowing if we are right in proving a theorem, but we know for sure that we are not wrong in formulating a conjecture”

HoopDance Workshop ǀ Fabrica Lab 2021-2022

HoopDance Workshop ǀ Fabrica Lab 2021 – 2022
The Multifunctional Art Group Fabrica Athens in the context of its dimensional educational action is part of the annual course program of Fabrica Lab monthly Workshop HoopDance.

For those who like dancing, acrobatics, juggling or all three, HoopDance is the perfect combination for them in one lesson! Widespread mainly in the USA, but also in some parts of Europe, Hoopdance (the dance with a wreath – hula hoop), is a special way of expression, exercise and fun.
HoopDance is aimed at those who are bored of dancing on their own, those who like dancing and acrobatic elements in it and those who like to learn themselves by connecting with something outside of themselves. In addition, it is aimed at professionals and amateur performers – artists of the performing arts and spectacle (circus, theater, dance, etc.), who seek experimentation and the acquisition of new skills.
The workshop is open at all levels. Group and personal work is done with each participant individually, depending on his level and needs. Within the three-hour meetings the hoopdancers:

  • They practice various HoopDance principles and learn wreath tricks.
  • Incorporate the tricks into a given choreography (hoopography).
  • They discover the quality of their movement in relation to the wreath, with the aim of releasing their personal means of expression and creating their own dance combinations.

Those interested can attend as many days as they wish from the four days after a telephone reservation.
Also, please wear comfortable, sports clothes, while those who have their own wreath to have it with them.
Note: The HoopDance Workshop will be repeated in December in order to continue the education of those interested. If the stable team wants it, there is an intention to present an open Performance HoopDance.
Note: In order to participate in the open courses, it is necessary to book a place by phone, as the classes will be small and the order of priority will be maintained. All necessary health measures concerning Covid-19 will be observed.

Theatrical Summer Seminar “Theater Connections 2”

Theatrical Summer Seminar “Theater Connections 2”

Summer, theatrical seminar “Theater Connections” in Methoni, Messinia for second year by Fabrica Athens.

The Multi-active Art Group Fabrica Athens organizes for the 2nd consecutive year the summer, theatrical seminar “Theater Connections” in the seaside town of Methoni in Messinia. From the 1st to the 8th of August, trainers of Fabrica Athens, based on the theatrical practice that they have developed “Theater of Research”, will hold a seminar of theatrical research and creation close to nature, to the inhabitants and the vacationers of the Messinian resort.

During the seminar the participants will have the opportunity:

  • To combine theatrical research and creation in nature with their summer vacations
  • To connect with the place and the inhabitants of Methoni through the art of theater
  • To get acquainted with the practice of the group “Theater of Research”
A few words about the Theater of Research

The Theater of Research is a theatrical practice developed by Fabrica Athens since 2012, which uses original techniques that draw on the methods of Jerzy Grotowski, Konstantin Stanislavski, Eugenio Barba, Giles Forman, Suzan Batson, Augusto Boal, Kitt Johnson and Tadashi Suzuki. The practice is used for the training of actors and performers, but also as a tool of Applied Theater in penitentiaries, youth exchange programs, immigrant camps, etc., adapting its techniques to each group in order to achieve a liberating and transformative experience.

Seminar Goals

The main goal of the theatrical seminar is the exchange and the creation of connections between the place of Methoni, the participants and the organizers. This will be achieved by creating and carrying out actions and events for the public of the provincial city, which will have the theatrical seminar as a point of reference. In addition, participants will be able to share moments of creation and recreation 24/7, as the experience of the seminar in nature, includes their stay at Camping Methoni (10 steps, literally, from the sandy beach) and visits to places and monuments of historical importance and natural beauty.

In addition, on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the Greek revolution, the purpose of the theatrical workshops and seminar activities is to explore the concept of “metavasis” (transition) on a personal and collective level. More specifically, the theater will be the vehicle for participants to connect with the place, history, culture and people of Methoni, which was a landmark in 1821 during the Greek revolution.

Theater Connections 2

Within 8 days the participants will create from scratch a performance for the residents and vacationers of the area, inspired by the area itself. In addition, the Fabrica Athens team will hold workshops and events for them, in which participants will take part on behalf of the public or animators / artists, gaining additional experience in their theatrical education and research.

The theatrical training will start with the body (kinesthesia, empowerment, plasticity, body and sound) and will include techniques from world-renowned theatrical methods and practices, such as those of Jerzy Grotowski, Eugenio Barba, Yoga, etc., and techniques that have been developed within the Theater of Research.

In addition to the empowerment and development of the participants’ means of expression, their theatrical education will also acquire a social dimension, using theater directly and practically as a cultural and social tool to create connections with the place and its people.

The main trainer of the seminar is the speaker – creator of the Theater of research, Fanis Katechos. Next to him will be the performer – trainer of Fabrica Athens, Giovanna Michaliadi Sarti, but also trainees at the “Theater of Research”, who will undertake selected parts of the training of the participants, on the occasion of the Lagastrian or peer-to-peer teaching method, which first -introduced in Methoni.

The seminar is supported by: Cultural Association of Methoni, Association of Friends of Methoni Castle and Independent Movement of Methoni Citizens “MethoNEI”.

Who is the seminar aimed at

The summer, theatrical seminar “Theater Connections” is addressed to artists (performers, actors, dancers, etc.), students of documentaries and other arts, but also to people with less experience in the (performing) arts, who have the mood and availability to work intensively in a dynamic group centered on the theater.

Tribute to Fabrica Athens Theater Group from the website Municipality and State

An extensive tribute to the multiactive Art Group Fabrica Athens, its actions and people, is hosted on the website Dimos kai Politeia.

On the website Dimos kai Politeia  you can find the tribute to Fabrica Athens which consists of excerpts from interviews of team members and collaborators, students in its educational workshops as well as people who know and participate in its diverse work.

“What does Fabrica mean to you?” What exactly is a team; A community? “

“What is your goal within this team?”

“What makes you part of Fabrica Athens?”

These are, among other things, some of the questions that team members answered.

“I belong to a group of artists who did not know what theater meant from their genuflections. I was born in a crisis and did not receive help from anywhere. These people sacrificed their personal lives to dedicate themselves to art.

In a group of artists who live without drumbeats. That brings together and that tries to create opportunities! Having an allergy to toxicity.

A team that has not succumbed to temptation and is open to all. Who is not silenced, who is anxious, who is ready to sacrifice everything for the common good. […] »

“Fabrica means hearth. It is a nucleus that is constantly active and concerns both the material dimension of the group (active members, theatrical methodology, educational approach), as well as the invisible being (idea, vision, philosophy of art – theater). It means love. […] »

You can find the full tribute to Fabrica Athens along with photos here

A warmly thanks to Nectarios Theodorou, for the tribute as well as for his interest in the team.

Special thanks to Katerina Markezini for her contribution to the editing of the texts.
