Land without Man – In and Out
In and Out

“In and Out” is an annual Theatrical Youth Exchange, which since 2016 brings together a total of 20 young artists (and lovers of the performing arts) from Berlin and Athens. Every year, new, but also older participants, on the occasion of the theatrical research and creation, based on the respective theme, travel between the two urban centers.

It is a collaboration and an institution of the organizations Mostar Friedensprojekt e.V. and Multiactive Group of Art – Fabrica Athens which promotes the Greek-German cultural exchange and which equips young artists with tools useful both for their artistic career, as well as for their personal development and social integration.

During the 16 days of the program, young artists have the opportunity to attend a demanding physical theater training, based on the path of the “Research Theater”, a theatrical methodology introduced by the instructor, director and actor of Fabrica Athens, Fanis Holder.

Land without Man

In 2017, people with less opportunities (gang members and former inmates of penitentiaries) had the opportunity to participate in the program. The participants through the theme “Land without Man” were led to create a show, which was presented at the blackbox of the TheaterHaus Berlin Mitte in Berlin.

Theatrical Connections – Summer Seminar

Theatrical Connections – Summer Seminar
Summer Seminar “Theatrical Connections” The Multiactive Art Group Fabrica Athens organizes a seven-day theatrical seminar in nature!

From August 3 to 10, Fabrica Athens trainers will hold a theatrical research and creation seminar in the coastal city of Methoni in Messinia. The seminar will be based on the theatrical methodology developed by the “Research Theater” group, but also on the mutual teaching method, which was first established in the Messinian resort.

During the seminar the participants will have the opportunity:

To combine theatrical research and creation in nature with their summer vacations

To connect with the place and the inhabitants of Methoni, through theatrical practice and

To get acquainted with the original methodology of the “Research Theater” group

Purpose of the Theatrical Seminar in Nature!

The main goal of the theatrical seminar is the exchange and the creation of connections between the place that hosts the action, the participants and the organizers. This will be achieved by creating and carrying out actions and events for the public of the provincial city, which will have the theatrical seminar as a point of reference. In addition, participants will be able to share moments of creation and recreation 24/7, as the experience of the seminar in nature, includes their stay at Camping Methoni (10 steps, literally, from the sandy beach) and visits to places and monuments of historical importance and natural beauty.

More specifically, within a week the participants will create from scratch a performance for the residents and the vacationers of the area. In addition, the Fabrica Athens team will hold workshops and events for them, in which participants will be able to participate on behalf of the public or animators / artists, gaining additional experience in their theatrical education and research.

The theatrical training will start with the body (kinesthesia, strengthening, plasticity) and will include techniques from world-renowned theatrical methods, such as those of Tadashi Suzuki, Jerzy Grotowski, Eugenio Barba etc., and techniques that have been developed within the Theater. of research.

In addition, on the occasion of the empowerment and development of the expressive means of the participants, their theatrical education will acquire a social dimension, using directly and practically the theater as a cultural and social tool for creating connections.

In this context, the seminar will incorporate all the protection measures proposed by the competent bodies, due to the pandemic, using them as conditions for the development of the theatrical process and its practitioners

The Trainers

The main trainer of the seminar is the speaker – creator of the Theater of Research, Fanis Katechos. Next to him will be the performer-trainer of Fabrica Athens, Giovanna Michaliadi Sarti, but also trainees at the “Theater of Research”, who will undertake selected parts of the training of the participants, on the occasion of the Lagastrian or peer-to-peer teaching method, which is applied from the team.

Who is the seminar aimed at?

The summer, theatrical seminar “Theatrical Connections” is addressed to artists (performers, actors, dancers, etc.), students of documentaries and other arts, but also to people with less experience in the (performing) arts, who have the mood and availability to work in a dynamic team centered on theater.

Yoga Class

Yoga classes are a personal encounter with the breath, body and mind.

The space and what it includes.

Meeting with the inside, the outside and the space between them.

With pause and silence.

A link to I Am That.

A step towards True Nature.

The lessons are based on classic Yoga practices, such as those of Yengar Yoga, Nada Yoga and Hatha Yoga. In this context we will move progressively from physical actions (asana) and breathing exercises (pranayama) to meditation (dhyana) and we will touch on pieces of the philosophy of Yoga (Yoga Sutras) and the anatomy of the body for a more effective and comprehensible practice. Each lesson will be independent. There will be a connection and continuity between the courses.

The aim of these courses is to be a small retreat or otherwise a short break in everyday life. To create space and time for each person for personal training and relaxation of the body and the mind, so that the practitioner returns to the whole rejuvenated. In addition, in a more general context, the courses aim to:

Connect the trainee with the present moment. Redefine our axis, center and boundaries. Encourage a journey of self-knowledge. To discover – create one’s own personal daily practice (sadhana), to achieve their goals.

Those interested in attending the classes are kindly requested to wear comfortable, sporty clothes with a fitted line. Those who have their own yoga mat can take it with them.

The course is addressed to all those who need and appetite for an active break in their day.

[2017, 2018]: Easter Island
Easter Island – Visual Performance

The basic subject of the narrative is the journey of the main heroine and the most important moments of her life and environment, intertwined with the basic stations of Greek history of the 20th century. The transitions of life… From her childhood in a mountain village and the experience of war in the big city, the seven years and the change of government.

From loneliness and introversion to young people, to large groups and the creation of her own family. From the normality that now dominates her life to the disease that will change her forever, it will transform her into something completely different and unexpected… The human body, as the main theme of the show, stands lonely and vulnerable, sick, transfused but does not succumb.

A visual representation that is divided into two parts, the Sculpture and the Transfiguration, complicates the dominant physical action with the limited speech and the musical reconstruction of traditional sounds by digital means, to capture our sexual need for a second chance, a revelation of the island Easter’s.

Director’s Note

The media, which compose each image on Easter Island, function as a transparency between the stage action and the spectators, like a window, blurred by the tusks of the people you pass by and look at unconsciously. So this “frost” elsewhere to harden the forms and elsewhere to smooth them and indiscretion to lead the viewer to clean the glass in places with his “palm”.

Express it!

– Theater of the Oppressed Express it! EU + Immigration + Refugees was a 10-day youth exchange under the Erasmus + Program, which took place in Spain with 30 participants from 6 countries and organized by AJ INTER.

The multifunctional art group Fabrica Athens contributed to its fulfillment by undertaking the theatrical approach to the refugee, immigration and human issue in general. Through the theatrical practice of the “Research Theater” group and applied theater techniques, the participants came closer to themselves, to each other, but also to the theme of the program.

Theater of the Oppressed

At the end of the exchange, the participants, under the guidance of the group’s trainers, created a performance based on the theater of the oppressed, where the audience was given the opportunity to propose solutions and participate in the performance itself.
