[Open Call Summer 2026]: Theatre Immersion in Greece

Summer Theatre Immersion in Greece 2026
Theatre Connections VII: Fabrica Athens’ summer theatre immersion returns to Methoni, Messinia and invites participants from all over the world.

The Multi-active Group of Art Fabrica Athens is announcing an international open call to artists and theatre lovers to in a 12-day theatre immersion, August 1-12, 2026, under the guidance of its members, Fanis Katechos and Giovanna Michaliadi Sarti.

A group of international participants will come together and embark on a shared journey of interaction with the place and its people through the theatrical process. Participants will be inspired by the place and their common experience and will create from scratch a performance to share with the locals and visitors of Methoni.

The 12-day theater experience includes:

Theatre Seminar

The theater seminar “Theatre Connections” is conducted by the trainers of Fabrica Athens and its collaborators. It is based on the technique and philosophy of the theater system “Theatre of Research” that Fabrica Athens has been developing since 2012, inspired by Fanis Katechos.

More specifically, “Theatre of Research” has been in development since 2012 and uses original techniques and techniques based on the methods of Jerzy Grotowski, Konstantin Stanislavski, Eugenio Barba, Giles Foreman, Suzan Batson, Augusto Boal, Kitt Johnson and Tadashi Suzuki. The practice is used for the training of actors and performers, but also as a tool of Applied Theatre in correctional institutions, youth exchange programs, migrant camps and more.

During the 12 days, the participants of the theatre seminar will be directed by Fabrica Athens in order to create an ensemble performance inspired by the place. Furthermore, they will take part as artists, animators or audience in various activities of a cultural week which is organized by Fabrica Athens in Methoni.

This year for the first time, the participants are invited to share with the seminar team or in the context of the cultural week a work-in-progress or completed project of their own. In this way, Fabrica Athens wants to encourage new creators or creators with new projects to take their first steps towards the public, to receive feedback from experienced artists and the public on their work and to strengthen their CV.

More specifically, the aim of the seminar and the cultural activities is the personal, social and professional development and empowerment of the participants through the playful and liberating experience of theater. Additionally, “Theatre Connections” aim to encourage exchange and dissemination of cultural elements between participants and the local community through the various forms of theater (applied theater, street theater, performance) and participatory culture.

Cultural Week

During the 12 days, Fabrica Athens curates a ten-day cultural event with free events for the audience, in which participants are welcome not only to attend, but also to actively contribute to it.

The events of the ten-day cultural event are of varied interest and the program is renewed every year. Just some of the activities that have been held in the past are: yoga on the coast of Methoni, walk-about events (stilts, bubble shows, parades, etc.), circus variety shows and street theater performances, theatrical and site-specific performances in the Castle Moat, flash mobs, workshops, cultural and environmental routes, lectures, etc.

The events of the ten-day cultural event are aimed at children, adolescents, adults and especially families. Furthermore, they are designed so that people of different cultural backgrounds can attend, regardless of language, and the majority of them are accessible to people with mobility difficulties. Particularly important is the fact that all activities are free of charge.

The participants of the theater workshop join the events developed by Fabrica Athens as audience, artists or animators, while this year they have the opportunity to express interest in presenting their own activity or project (work-in-progress or completed).

Guided Tours, Excursions & Special Moments

In addition to the theatrical seminar and cultural events, participants can enjoy morning (or evening) swimming on the shore, have the opportunity to travel to beautiful islands of the coast of Methoni, visit its medieval castle (which is surrounded on three sides by water) and one of the first mutual teaching schools in Greece. They will hear from local teachers and communities about the history of Methoni, enjoy delicious Greek summer meals together, and there will not miss coffee and exchange of stories with a neighbour.
